Dr. Deborah Shawa

Governance and Nominating Committee Member

Dr. Deborah Shawa joined the World Vision Zambia Board on 17th July, 2013 and is a member of the Governance and Nominating Committee. She is a Reverend Emeritus with the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa. She is a member of St. Columba’s Presbyterian Church. She posses a Bachelor of Theology from Justo Mwale Theological College, a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and a Doctor od Philosophy in Practical Theology from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Her PhD research was entitled “The Silent Voices of Children Orphaned by AIDS and Vulnerable Children living in the HIV and AIDS Environment in Urban Zambia: A Pastoral Care Challenge." 

She taught Sunday school for children for many years and has also worked with children orphaned by AIDS and other vulnerable children. In 2004, she initiated and managed a Christian community based school, ‘Ng’ombe Presbyterian Community School’ for orphans and vulnerable children. Currently the school has over 650 pupils from preschool upto grade 9. In 2009, she registered Kingdom Community Services to sponsor orphans for secondary and tertiary education, offer youth skills training and empower widows and other vulnerable women with survival skills.
